Indonesian govt blocks Islamic websites to prevent spread of radicalism: VP Kalla

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla said here on Monday that he had ordered Indonesian Minister of Informatics and Communication Rudiantara to block Islamic websites that were spreading radicalism.

“I asked Rudiantara to block websites that were found to be clearly part of a propaganda for radicalism, following a thorough study,” he stated in his office.

He added that Islamic websites carrying content on radicalism were blocked following a request from a security institution.

Muslim family gets jail for practicing religion in China


In another crackdown on religious freedom against Muslims, a Chinese court recently sentenced a Muslim couple from Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uyghur Region of China for practicing their religious belief.

A 38-year-old Muslim man was sentenced to six years in prison for growing his beard, while his wife was given a two-year sentence for wearing a veil.

China’s Xinjiang region, which is home to millions of Turkic-speaking Uyghurs, has seen an upsurge in violence that has left hundreds dead since 2012.

Malaysia proposes anti-terror laws to curb ISIS militants

Malaysia’s government Monday proposed two new laws that would reintroduce indefinite detention without trial and allow the seizure of passports of anyone suspected of supporting terror acts in an attempt to curb militant activities.

The government late last year said new measures were needed after arresting some 100 Malaysians suspected of supporting the Islamic State militant group. More than 60 Malaysians were believed to have joined the war in Syria and Iraq, as well as another 10 who have been killed.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Using democratic means to introduce hudud is “haram”, the local chapter of hardline Islamist group Hizbut Tahrir said, insisting that Islamic law must be implemented in its entirety in Malaysia without approval from Parliament or state assemblies.

The group said putting hudud through debates in the state legislative assembly or the Dewan Rakyat ultimately subjects the sacred law to the approval of man.

“This is categorically haram because the authority to make laws is vested only upon Allah and man is ordered to implement them, not vote to decide on their implementation,” Hizbut Tahrir spokesman Abdul Hakim Othman said in a statement

أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍ ۚ فَمَا جَزَاءُ مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا خِزْيٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ أَشَدِّ الْعَذَابِ ۗ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

“Do you, then, believe in one part of the Book and reject the other? What repayment will there be for any of you who do that except disgrace in this world? And on the Day of Rising, they will be returned to the harshest of punishments. Allah is not unaware of what you do.”

Cairo (ANTARA News) – Indonesian President Joko Widodos (Jokowis) special envoy Alwi Shihab has urged Al Azhar scholars and educators in Egypt to help spread moderate Islam in Indonesia.

“Ahmad Al-Tayeb, the grand sheikh of Al Azhar, positively welcomed President Jokowis request to increase the spread of moderate Islamic understanding in Indonesia,” Shihab stated in Cairo.
