Ramadan, Political Uproar, and the Crown of Obligations

This year’s Ramadan is very special for Muslims in Indonesia – the world’s largest Muslim country – due to the hectic and colossal “public uproar and outcry”. It resulted from the regime’s stance with its various policies to silence the idea of the Khilafah (Caliphate) and Hizb ut Tahrir. Uniquely, the Ummah has been fiercely resisting through social media, by criticizing every stance and policy of the regime, along with the increasing position and strength of Muslim ummah. Masha Allah.

After bomb terror at the end of Sha’ban, the ruler was very busy with his controversial policies that led to public uproar, from passing the Anti-Terrorism Act, releasing a list of government-sponsored “safe” preachers, banning thousands of radical social media accounts, tightening the discipline of hate speech done by government employees, releasing the BNPT-version list of 7 radical campuses, persecuting some Hizb ut Tahrir activist forums, giving sanctions against professors and lecturers considered to be anti-NKRI and pro-Khilafah, to freezing student organizations considered to spread radical idea of Khilafah. The ruling regime in Indonesia appears to have prepared all these policy orchestrations in a row during the month of Ramadan, completed with all tendentious labels and vague narratives against Islam.

Many activists and intellectuals who still have normal reasoning will feel insulted because their intellectuality is underestimated by the extravaganza injustice that continues to be displayed. Communism is allowed to be studied but the idea of Khilafah is forbidden to be a public discourse. The power of foreign capital is given a red carpet, while social gap is widening. Pancasila is only used as a stick tool to divide the public through the politics of stick and carrot: “with us or with the radical anti-NKRI”. Ironically, of the ruler’s stance is far from the character of Pancasila, because it is so radical in making debts, importing rice, sitting idle for the social gap and poverty within the people, handing over infrastructure projects to foreigners, spreading terror of its dictatorships, and persecuting every criticism.

All this political uproar is really a big ordeal for every da’wah carrier in Indonesia. Beside the obligation for fasting to become muttaqeen, meanwhile the Muslim Ummah in Indonesia are presented with a systematic policy drama that corners the Islamic ideology and its teachings. On the other hand, it shows that the people and the ruler are in face-to-face or opposite position, not in one frequency of vision and mission to attain Taqwa. No more shades of grey, because the black and white between the truth (haq) and the false (batil) is getting more contrast. The narrative of Khilafah-phobia that continues to be built by the regime in Indonesia will never be able to stop the light of Islamic da’wah which has already shown. This secular regime must accept the reality of change that the people want Islam, because the Khilafah is the teaching of Islam, moreover it is the crown of obligations in order to perfect Taqwa as the best people, the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.

Dear brothers and sisters in Indonesia, we are now in the final phase, the increasing darkness is a sign that the dawning of victory is getting closer on the horizon… So as the da’wah carriers, we must be stronger and tougher in bearing every obstacle that will surely come on this path. We have chosen this path with full awareness that this path is not an easy nor a popular path. This da’wah is not an easy task, as are the Companions (ra) who endured the suffering and sacrifice for the victory of Islam. We have begun this journey with full awareness and acceptance that whatever would happen is only what Allah commands His servants.

Dear brothers and sisters, when this crown of duty is accomplished as Allah al-Aziiz has promised to us, by His Will, these heavy-duty fighters will be remembered forever in the history books of the Ummah next to the names of the Companions. The Jannah gate will welcome those who work tirelessly and unconditionally on this thorny and bloody path as Saad bin Muadz greeted, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and Umar bin al-Khattab…

Who does not want a nobler ending to a turbulent journey, following in the footsteps of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ? Working for a Khilafah State – the crown of obligations – in which all the Laws of Allah are carried out simultaneously and practically in order to glorify the oppressed Ummah of Muhammad, to inhale the true breath of liberation from the iron hands of their tyrants who have humiliated them with hunger, torture, and expulsion from their lands.

“Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that – then those are the defiantly disobedient.”
