A Rohingya woman interviewed by Al Jazeera on the 17/5/15 aboard the stranded ship off the coast of Sathun Province, Thailand said that she boarded the boat because she had nowhere else to go. “I don’t have a home or anything left,” she said. “The Rakhine killed my mother and my relatives. The people in the village said they were going to Malaysia, so I made the decision to follow them”. (Source: AlJazeera, 05/15/2015)

The Rohingya Muslim women have faced the most unimaginable inhumane conditions as internally displaced refugees in Burma since the riots, burnings and looting of their villages and systematic killings of their family members began in 2012. Such unimaginable ‘concentration camp’ like living conditions in Burma have pushed Rohingya women to board unsafe boats hoping to find refuge in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia. However, the anti-refugee policies adopted by governments in these countries are designed to deter the so-called pull factors that countries like Australia are obliged under agreed international conventions to give, like granting refugee status, sanctuary and asylum. However, all these governments including Muslim nations like Indonesia and Malaysia have actively used their navy fleets and border patrol boats to turn back boats pulling them back out to international waters. This consequently has resulted in thousands of lives lost at sea!
The nation state project is a failed one by the mere fact that firstly Burma has failed to give citizenship or protection to the Rohingya and secondly have systematically tried to ethnically cleanse their lands of them. Muslim nations furthermore like Indonesia and Malaysia have also miserably failed with their inhumane responses devoid of any Islamic solutions to protect Rohingya women.
Only the Khilafah is the ultimate solution by which to protect Rohingya women.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
«المسلم أخو المسلم، لا يظلمه، ولا يخذله»
“The Muslim is the brother of his fellow Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he abandon him…”
