Sheikh Ata Abu Al-Rishta writes to the Shabab in Palestine

On the 1 Safar al Murajjab, 1428 A.H corresponding to the 19/02/2007, the Amir of Hizb ut-Tahrir Sheikh Ata Abu Al-Rishta wrote to the shabab of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Palestine after a series of attacks against them especially from people belonging to the Palestinian Authority. The attacks came after the Shabab of Hizb ut-Tahrir distributed two leaflets, first calling the rival factions of Fatah and Hamas to seize spilling each others blood over futile positions bequeathed to them by the Zionists and the Western states and the second exposing the Makkah accord to be no more than a beginning towards recognizing the illegal state of Israel.

A brief translation of the letter is below:

  • The letter starts with the ayah,
وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَعَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
“As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths. And verily,
Allah is with the Muhsinun (good doers)." [TMQ al ‘Ankaboot: 69]

  • He then says, "I am aware that you are subjected to persecution and your blood is being spilled. While this tragedy saddens me to the core, it also pleases me at the same time"… "What pleases me is that you have held on to the truth steadfastly, are patient on the face of the persecution and you are openly complying with the command of Allah (swt). This reminds me of the steadfastness of the companions of the Prophet on the truth and their patience despite the sufferings. My glad tidings to the Shabab, in that they would have their share like the companions, may Allah be pleased with them, in terms of reward and victory"
  • Sheikh Ata abu Al-Rishta then discusses what had pained him that Muslims who profess the shahadah could resort to such violence against other Muslims to pave the way for the recognition of the state of Israel, adding "Instead of having a feeling of hatred and rancor for such decisions, they are delightfully dancing while their own blood is being spilled in the land of al Isra wal Me’raj".
  • He argues that there has been a clear manipulation of the people where the recent Makkah accord has been presented as a victory whereas in fact it is a betrayal.
  • When the Shabab tried to address this through leaflets and discussions they were met with beatings, threats using guns and strangulation. All of this amounts to a misplaced loyalty where the Zionists will "not stop short until these leaders themselves fully agree to their demands  just as their partisans had done before them".
  • Sheikh Ata abu Al-Rishta addresses their amazing restraint by saying, "Despite the hardships and persecution by such Muslims who are led away, do not seek revenge on them but have sympathy for them and their predicament. Insha’Allah, the covering on their eyes will wither away, and they will soon realize that you have been their well wishers, truthful in your counsel, and they will then revert to you like the bothers of Yusuf’s (as) saying:
تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ ءَاثَرَكَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَخَاطِئِينَ
“They said: "By Allah! Indeed Allah has preferred you above us, and we certainly have been sinners." [TMQ Yousuf: 91]"

  • He adds, "As for those brothers who are guiding others to truth and facts, and yet their blood is spilled by such Muslims who have gone astray, for them the Prophet (saw) has these words:

«ما من مسلم يشاك شوكة فما فوقها إلا رفعه الله بها درجة، وحط عنه بها خطيئة» رواه مسلم.
“No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it and raises him a level
even though it was the prick he receives from a thorn”. [Narrated by Muslim]"

  • He ends his letter by complimenting the shabab.

The letter illustrates a good example of the strength and determination required for the carrying of haq, despite the unfounded loyalties and narrow mentalities, meeting these with restraint and patience. It also gives an indication of perceptive and warm leadership which has earned widespread respect of Sheikh Ata Abu al-Rishta.
