Defence and security cooperation with India is haram and a danger to Bangladesh

In a press statement issued today, Chief Coordinator and Spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh, Mohiuddin Ahmed expressed his grave concern regarding the news of the Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed’s commitment to revive defence and security cooperation with India. The Army Chief who is visiting India now, is holding talks with his Indian counterpart regarding joint operation against Indian insurgent groups. Furthermore they are discussing promoting cooperation between the armed forces of Bangladesh and India in areas of training, exchange of information and improving the overall security environment in the region.

Mohiuddin Ahmed said such military-to-military cooperation with India is a danger to Bangladesh. India is a belligerent state who has only shown enmity to the Muslims and the people of Bangladesh. There are countless acts of aggression which India commits against the Muslims and the people of Bangladesh such as her border security forces killing thousands of Bangladeshis over the years, the Farraka damn and Tippaimukh damn, assisting rebel groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region etc. Cooperation with the military of such a belligerent state will only bring severe harm to the military of Bangladesh.

Furthermore Muslims are forbidden to have any joint military training, joint military operation, bilateral defence pact, military alliance etc with a belligerent disbelieving-polytheist state. Muhammad (saw) said, “Do not fight with the fire of the pagans.” Fire here is an indication of power. He (saw) also said, “We do not seek the help of pagans.”
