Changing the Face of Democracy is Never Enough

Strive for the End of Democracy, the Guardian of Corruption and Oppression

Today, shortly after noon, on Friday 28 July 2017, Pakistan’s Supreme Court disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from holding public office and recommended anti-corruption cases against himself, his family and his ruling entourage. In an era where the entire Muslim World is immersed in corruption and oppression, it is no surprise that the Muslims rejoiced at a decision which was seen as a taste of justice. However, let us all remember that we will never see complete and comprehensive justice, until we see the end of Democracy, the guardian corruption. Let us remember that RasulAllah ﷺ warned us,

The believer is not stung from the same hole twice.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Indeed we have always been stung when there was a change in the face of Democracy, but Democracy itself remained. We rejoiced when we saw the end of Nawaz Sharif in 1999 and warmly welcomed Musharraf. Then we rejoiced at the end of Musharraf and warmly welcomed Zardari. Then we rejoiced at the end of Zardari and warmly welcomed Nawaz. And now we rejoice at the end of Nawaz but soon enough we will curse the new face, because Democracy remained. How many times will Democracy raise our hopes, only for them to be dashed again?!

Let us remember that wherever Democracy exists, so does corruption. The Panama Papers revealed corruption in Democracies all over the world, from Russia to South America, not just in Pakistan.  Moreover, Democracy is the guardian of all forms of corruption (fasaad), financial and otherwise. Democracy is the guardian of ruling by that which angers Allah (swt), even though Allah swt said,

And whosoever does not rule by all that which Allah has revealed, such are the Zalimun”

(Surah Al-Maidah 5:45)

Democracy is the guardian of denying the people their rightful share of the wealth of the land, even though Allah (swt) said,

In order that it may not become a wealth just between the rich among you.”

(Surah Al-Hashr 59:7)

Democracy is the guardian of alliance with the enemies of Islam and Muslims, even though Allah (swt) said,

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as allies they are but allies to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as allies then surely he is one of them.”

(Surah Al-Maidah 5:51)

And Democracy is the guardian of abandoning Masjid al Aqsa and the Muslims of Occupied Kashmir, even though Allah (swt) said,

If they seek your help in religion, it is your duty to help them.”

(Surah al-Anfal 8:72)

So, let us not be stung yet again by Democracy and strive with the Shabab of Hizb ut Tahrir to secure the real cause for rejoicing, the ruling by the Book of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of RasulAllah ﷺ, seeking earnestly the glad tidings of RasulAllah ﷺ, when he ﷺ said,

“Then there will be an oppressive rule, and things will be as Allah wishes them to be. Then Allah will end it when He wishes. Then there will be a Khilafah according to the method of Prophethood.” Then he fell silent.” (Ahmed)
