On June 3rd 2016, the BBC reported that there was a secret deal between Ayatollah Khomeini and the US Jimmy Carter administration. The BBC report provides an in depth account on how Khomeini negotiated his return to Iran with the Americans. Reacting to the BBC report, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, “Britain has always been hostile to us.” He dismissed the report as fake. Despite denials from Khamenei, the report raises some interesting points, and questions the loyalty and the independence of Iranian regime.

To many observers of regional politics, Iran’s interference in Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iraq is proof that Tehran is in cohorts with Washington shaping and serving American interests. However, literature that underpins the history of this satanic cooperation is in short supply and not readily accessible. One has to sift through books and periodicals to understand the Iranian-American nexus that was forged almost forty years ago. The BBC report is not only a timely reminder about this clandestine cooperation but it also has an ulterior motive.
The BBC report reveals that US Deputy National Security Advisor David Aaron told his boss Zbigniew Brzezinski on January 9, 1979: “The best that can result, in my view, is a military coup against Bakhtiar and then a deal struck between the military and Khomeini that finally pushes the Shah out of power.” The report further adds that Khomeini assured the US that after the Shah’s dismissal oil flow would not be interrupted. Khomeini also told the Americans that he favored relations with the US and opposed atheist Russia. On Khomeini’s arrival to Tehran in 1979, the report notes that the US ambassador remarked, “Sounds like military have come around to accepting Khomeini arrival and are prepared to cooperate with Islamic movement as long as constitutional norms be respected.” America planned the Islamic revolution in Iran because this was consistent with Brzezinski’s overall plan to use both Sunni and Shias in its quest to defeat the Soviet Union.
The character and purpose of the Iranian regime remains unchanged to this day. After the Iranian nuclear deal in July 2015, Iran has become more aggressive in safeguarding American interests in the region. Tehran supports Assad with money and men, fully backs the Houthis in Yemen with weapons and in Iraq collaborates with the Americans to contain the Sunni and Shia revolts against the Iraqi government. So the question arises, why has the BBC chosen to publish such a report?
Britain’s main fear lies in Iran’s continued interference in the GCC and elsewhere eventually overwhelming her agents to compete effectively. This also explains the strong rebuke from Khamenei towards the BBC.
Four decades on from the Iranian revolution, Muslims—whether Sunni or Shia—are manipulated by Western powers to protect their interests. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
«لَا يُلْدَغُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مِنْ جُحْرٍ وَاحِدٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ»
“The Muslim should be sharp so that he is not stung from the same hole twice.”
Muslims have been let down by the Iranian regime several times and the most glaring example of the regime betrayal is that Tehran did not lift its finger to help fellow Shias fighting the American occupation in Karbala and Najaf. The time has come for the Muslims of Iran to remove the evil regime that has co-operated with the great Satan for far too long.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَأَنَّهُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
“Oh you have Iman, answer the call of Allah and his messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.”
(Surah Al Anfal:8)
