Turkey’s Ruling Party Wins Big

Voters delivered a surprise win for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, in elections on Sunday.

In a major comeback from the previous general election, the AKP, led by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, seems to have secured a large enough majority of seats in parliament for single-party rule, according to preliminary results released by the semiofficial Anadolu News Agency.

The preliminary results from Sunday’s vote show the AKP securing 316 seats in parliament, more than the 276 seats needed for single-party rule but shy of the 330 seats needed to take constitutional changes to referendum without reaching out to other parties.

The center-left Republican People’s Party, or CHP, came in second place, receiving 134 seats. It was followed by the pro-Kurdish, leftist Peoples’ Democratic Party, or HDP, with 56 seats. Next came the right wing Nationalist Movement Party with 41 seats, according to the preliminary results.

In June, the AKP failed to get enough votes to form a government and coalition attempts failed to seat a Cabinet. That vote struck a stunning blow to more than 12 years of dominance in parliament by the AKP, founded by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Analysts predict that the renewed mandate for the AKP could to revive efforts by Erdogan to transform the Turkish government into a presidential system. [Source: CNN]

In these hard days, United States will implement its Middle East politics more easily grace of its ally AKP’s power alone.

Obama to Visit Turkey, Philippines, Malaysia in November

Already one of the most-traveled presidents in U.S. history, President Obama will travel to Turkey, the Philippines and Malaysia in November.

The White House said Mr. Obama will be out of the country from Nov. 14 to Nov. 22 on his trip, which will include participation in a G-20 summit in Turkey, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in the Philippines and two summits in Malaysia.

The trip “will support the president’s efforts to expand opportunities for American businesses and workers to sell their products in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets,” the White House said. He’ll also push for a climate change agreement to limit carbon emissions, ahead of a trip to Paris in December. [Source: Washington Times]

EUCOM: More Fighter Jets to Turkey, More Heavy Army Gear Moving East

Coming shifts in the U.S. military’s footprint in Europe will include sending warplanes and support troops into Turkey to help fight Islamic State militants and moving more heavy Army equipment into Eastern Europe to deter Russian aggression, the top U.S. commander in the region said Friday.

The U.S. will be sending a detachment of F-15 aircraft to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey to join the current fleet of 12 A-10s, a senior administration official told Military Times.

Moving F-15s into Turkey will expand the existing fighter fleet that arrived for the first time earlier this year. A breakthrough deal with the Turkish government this summer allowed the U.S. to deploy combat aircraft to Incirlik; U.S. access to that base previously was limited to cargo and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft.

It is unclear how many additional U.S. troops will be moving to Incirlik; about 1,900 are there now.

The Pentagon plans to send more gear to “pre-position” in Eastern Europe in addition to the heavy brigade’s worth of equipment that has been moving into the region this year. That includes armored vehicles, artillery, ammunition stocks and communications equipment.

U.S. forces in Europe and NATO partners are conducting the largest military exercise in more than a decade. “Trident Juncture,” involving more than 36,000 troops, aims to “test the NATO response force, a high-readiness and technologically advanced force comprised of land, air, maritime and special force units, capable of being deployed quickly to support our operations wherever needed,” Breedlove said. More death machines are coming to destroy Muslim lands from Muslim lands. It is very sad that this slaughter is made with the assistance of a popular so called Muslim government in Turkey.
