6 US F-16 Fighter Jets Arrive at Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base to Join Fight against IS

Six U.S. F-16 fighter jets arrived at an air base in southern Turkey on Sunday to join the U.S.-led coalition fight against Islamic State militants, the U.S. military said.

The U.S. European Command said in a statement that the U.S. air force deployed a “small detachment” of six F-16 jets, support equipment and about 300 personnel at Incirlik Air Base. The detachment is part of the 31st Fighter Wing based at Aviano Air Base, in Italy, it said.

Last week, U.S. armed drones taking off from Incirlik struck IS positions, and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said an “extensive” fight against the extremists would soon begin.

“The United States and Turkey, as members of the 60-plus nation coalition, are committed to the fight against ISIL in the pursuit of peace and stability in the region,” the U.S. military said, using an alternative name for the militant group.

Turkish media reports say the U.S. is expected to deploy around 30 fighter jets at Incirlik for strikes against IS.

Incirlik is located close to IS strongholds across the border in Syria, allowing the U.S. to move more swiftly and nimbly against IS targets. Its use would enable the U.S. -led coalition to conduct better surveillance over Syria and act quicker on intelligence than when it was limited to launching flights from places like Iraq, Jordan and the Gulf states. It is a shame that a Muslim country’s leaders deals with Islam’s number one enemy. After last week’s agreement, America is going to use Incirlik Airbase efficiently by bombing Muslim countries Iraq and Syria while they remain idle at the bloodshed of the Muslim Ummah.

Greek Effect on Turkey Limited: IMF official

The direct channels through which financial problems in Greece can spill over to Turkey are very limited, according to the Senior Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Turkey, Srikant Seshadri.

“The direct economic, trade, and financial links between Turkey and Greece are very limited. Therefore, the direct channels through which problems in Greece can spill over to Turkey are also very limited. There are also more indirect channels to keep in mind,” he told Anadolu Acency.

“By taking on these issues, Turkey has a golden opportunity to seize this important moment, and once again demonstrate to the world its well-known dynamism and  resourcefulness,” Seshadri said.

“In a purely financial sense, higher interest rates and a stronger dollar for a prolonged period could make it more expensive for those who have borrowed predominantly in dollars to repay or refinance their dollar-denominated debts,” the official said. “In a broader economic sense, such episodes of prolonged dollar strength, accompanied by higher interest rates, might reduce capital flows to emerging economies as a whole.” [Source: Hurriyet Daily News]

This is one of the results of Capitalist economic politics, and it is doomed to fail. No economic solutions but the Islamic model and system can develop truly and in harmony with human nature.

Governor-General’s visit to Turkey

Yesterday, the Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae commenced an official visit to Turkey which will culminate in the commemorations to mark the centenary of the Battle of Chunuk Bair on Saturday.

Last night the Governor-General and the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Gen The Hon Sir Peter Cosgrove attended the premier of the Gallipoli Symphony in Istanbul. The Symphony was commissioned by the Australian Department of Veterans’ Affairs and has been a unique collaboration, over a ten-year period, between eleven composers from New Zealand, Australia and Turkey. The New Zealand composers were Gareth Farr, Richard Nunns and Ross Harris and the performance also featured Taonga pūoro musician Horomona Horo.

On Thursday, the Governor-General and Lady Janine will attend the Australian national ceremony at Lone Pine to commemorate the centenary of the battle there which claimed over 2000 Australian lives.

The service at Chunuk Bair on Saturday 8 August marks the centenary of the Battle, which is regarded as the most significant action for the NZEF in the Gallipoli Campaign. It was part of the August offensive (6-10 August 1915) where more than 870 New Zealanders were killed.

While he is in Turkey, the Governor-General is also meeting the President of Turkey, Recep Erdoğan, and the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Ismet Yilmaz. [Source: Scoop News]

Another big shame is to host a Commonwealth colonialist Governor-General especially the one who fought against Ottoman Empire at Gallipoli / Canakkale between ranks of British Empire.
