After the storm of the civil marriage and the celebration of homosexuals at the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese American University officially declares that it has no place dedicated for prayer! This provoked the students and caused controversy among them, and between them and the administration, and in the media.

This indicates that there are those in the university who are trying to ignore that in a Muslim country the Muslims have five prayer times a day, and they are commanded to perform it on time. It is not permissible, and it is not right to harass students by depriving them of a place dedicated to performing their prayers. We therefore view this as an irresponsible act by the university administration and its president, and it must be resolved quickly and to never repeat this action.

What is happening repeatedly is a serious of failures by those in power too, who require universities to provide health facilities, recreation hall, cafeteria, car parks, green spaces, and other educational materials, so how can it not require the allocation of a prayer area, which is the most important pillar and duty in Islam?! As well as at the highest in the levels of priorities.

Depriving students from a prayer area is discrimination and harassment. It is one of the secretions of the secular system and its evils that afflict the people living under it. Those who promote or defend such a system do not represent us, but rather participate in attempts to stop Muslims from practicing their Deen.

In contrast to the secular system, the system of Islam, with its grace and elevation, works to encourage obedience to Allah and to facilitate His worship in accordance to the saying of Allah (swt) in the Noble Quran:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالإِنسَ إِلاَّ لِيَعْبُدُونِ

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me”

[Az-Dhariyat: 56]
