On Saturday, 26/2/2022, the judicial police squad in Sfax City arrested a member of Hizb ut Tahrir, Ahmad bin Al-Bashir bin Mabrouk Latif, born on 29/9/1998, in Sfax province. He is a student of art at the Faculty of Arts. He was arrested under the Inspection Circular No. 932 dated 21/2/2021 for the benefit of the First Instance Court in Tunisia, which authorized his detention, on the backdrop of a court ruling issued by the Eighth Department of the First Instance Court in Tunisia on 2/4/2021, in which the member was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization!

In light of this, the Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah of Tunisia announces the following:

1- The arrest of the members of Hizb ut Tahrir has nothing to do with any terrorist organization, but rather it is persecuting them because of their Islamic ideas within the anti-Islam policy pursued by the bankrupt regime that is tampering with the fate of Tunisia and its people. Thus, the member, Ahmad Latif is arrested and imprisoned in the prime of his youth, and he is deprived of continuing his studies only because of his ideas.

2- The fabrication of charges of “terrorism” against the members of Hizb ut Tahrir, are openly directed politically to intimidate the general public from the party and to prevent the people of Tunisia from working to restore life in accordance with the rules of Islam.

Hizb ut Tahrir adopts the method of the Prophet (saw), in the Dawah, it rejects violence, and even criminalizes and prohibits it, and such arrests on charges of “terrorism” are nothing but a gateway that allows employees of the security services to fabricate lawsuits in the service of repressive and biased political parties.

3- The accusation of “Atonement (takfeer) and calling for it” in accordance with the terrorism law, which is attributed to the member Ahmad Latif, is a charge that does not have legal foundations, as all the actions attributed to him are in the context of expressing a political and intellectual position that does not fall under the jurisdiction of the terrorism law in any way.

We in the media office of Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah of Tunisia affirm that we are an integral part of this Ummah, we did not come from outer space. The people know us, they know our members, and know what structure we are. Therefore, arrests, prisons, and harassment will not deter us from moving forward in political action in order to resume the Islamic way of life, and Hizb ut Tahrir will not hesitate in its path, following the path of the Messenger of Allah (saw) in order to establish the second Khilafah Rashidah (rightly-guided Caliphate) on the method of the Prophethood. Allah (swt) says:

(وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهُمُ الَّذِي ارْتَضَى لَهُمْ وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْناً يَعْبُدُونَنِي لا يُشْرِكُونَ بِي شَيْئاً وَمَنْ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ)

“Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that – then those are the defiantly disobedient” [An-Nur: 55].
