Tajikistan Initiates National Policy to Insult the Islamic Dress and Criminalise the Pious Practicing Muslimah

On August 19, the Asia Plus Website reported that a meeting was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan where prominent figures including members of parliament, religious leaders, police officers, city deputies, traders and mayors gathered to discuss critical issues including the rise of so-called “Islamic extremism”. The report explained that Dushanbe Mayor Mohamad Syed Ubaidulloev appealed to attendees to help combat “displays of religious extremism and terrorism” and for all city residents to assist in the battle. The call against Islam culminated in Ubaidulloev issuing instructions for government officials to put an end to the import and sale of clothes “alien” to Tajiks which is a coded reference to the Islamic clothing worn by Muslim women such as hijabs and the niqab.

The hatred for the commands of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and the opposition to the values of the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ are a continuation of previous anti-Islamic sentiment reflected in President Emomali Rahmon’s Mother’s Day speech in February 2015. On that day he was quoted as saying, “Since ancient times our people have had beautiful women’s dresses, our girls have never worn black clothes. Traditionally, black clothes are not welcome.” The unashamed and depraved levels the Tajik government is willing to go to enforce Kufr non-Islamic laws in its area reached a particularly revolting low point when it allowed the state television network to broadcast a report showing street women who sell their bodies using the veil to attract a particular kind of customer!

Astaghfirullah!!! La Hawla Wala Qawatta Illah Billah!!! How dare this corrupt regime make such vile and invalid comparisons that directly insult our pure righteous practicing Muslim women who have nothing to do with such deviant practices! We in the Women’s Section of the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir strongly condemn these repulsive decisions proposed by the Tajik regime to associate the Muslim women’s dress with immorality and terrorism and the like. Rather it is the promotion and implementation of the corrupt, inhumane, and far from Islam secular liberal values and system by Tajikstan’s government upon its people which is the real source of evil, insecurity and harm upon its society. It is these values that created the mischief-makers and spread all forms of corruption, mischief, and immorality within its land, including hostility against Islam. Furthermore, it is the implementation of liberal secular values that are “alien” to Muslim women, NOT the modest covering of her awrah in public places. We call upon the Muslims of Tajikistan to reject the proposed ban on the import and wearing of Islamic clothing and we in our role stand with our fellow sisters in exposing the Tajikistani government as a colonial entity used to secure the economic interests of Western governments at the expense of women’s rights. Furthermore, we remind all of our Muslim women to work for the establishment of the Khilafah Rashidah upon the method of the Prophethood which alone will protect their Islamic dress and ensure that they will be able to live a full Islamic life under its shade.

“They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.”
