Suspending Activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir from Dhaka University is a Telling Fact that the Flag-bearers of Secularism Miserably Failed to Confront Islam Intellectually

On Thursday (09 July, 2015), Dhaka University (DU) announced that it has suspended five students for publicizing materials of Hizb ut-Tahrir. They are MBA students of the Management department Shihab Uddin and Saidi Hasan Sajib, MBA student of Accounting department Toriqul Islam, and BBA students Nakib Farhan and Alamgir Hossain. Proctor of the university M Amjad Ali told the media that the students were suspended for compromising the university’s reputation and posing a security risk!

This inglorious act of the DU administration epitomizes the epic hypocrisy of the upholder of the so-called democracy and free speech. While the DU Proctor M Amjad Ali takes false pride in his role of protecting the spirit of freedom in the campus, in actual fact he is carrying the same colonial legacy of tolerating everything except ‘political Islam’. What was so risky about these bright activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a party which has been popularly accepted for its constant intellectual and political struggle without ever resorting to armed struggle even in the face of endless government oppression and torture, who were only holding intellectual discussion with the teachers and students on the Words of the Almighty? What a shameful conduct of the intellectually bankrupt DU authority that they could not even stand some courageous tongues whereas they glorify their university as the central premise for ‘free thought’ in Bangladesh! The newly constructed “’Mukti O Ganotontro’ Gate (Freedom & Democracy Gate) at the entry point of the university is now a symbol representing the double standards of the DU authority. We ask the Proctorial body of DU that why have they not yet banned and suspended Bangladesh Chatra (Students) League (BCL) for their violent acts and extortions in the campus to establish supremacy for BCL? Hence the suspension of the non-violent activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir symbolizes not only a failure of the DU administration but also of the failing secular democracy that could not defend its ideology with debate and discussion.

O the sincere teachers and students of the Dhaka University! Hizb ut-Tahrir calls upon you to raise your voices against such tyrannical and duplicitous decision of the administration. What is the cause that these brave sons of the Ummah are striving for? Their constant struggle is not for the purpose of their self-fulfilment; rather they are sacrificing this mundane world only for your betterment, to save you from this despotic regime. Therefore, it is your moral and religious obligation to aid the inspiring workers of the Khilafah who are the only hope for your salvation from the man-made tyranny.

“Oh you who Believe! Answer the call of Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life and know that Allah comes in between a person and his heart. And verily to Him you shall (all) be gathered.”

(Surah Al-Anfal: 24)
