In response to the arrests and political repression of the supporters of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Tulkarem – the northern West Bank, hundreds of Hizb supporters gathered on Gamal Abdel Nasser roundabout in downtown Tulkarem, chanting slogans and raising banners condemning the arrests and political repression.

Security forces arrested Al-Baher Saleh member of the Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir in Palestine, along with a group of six Hizb supporters after Saleh concluded his speech in the rally.

Saleh spoke of the high number of assaults against Hizb members and supporters in recent months in the West Bank especially an increase in Tulkarm which included house raids, detainment without valid reason and without bail. Detainees were also subjected to battery and torture.

Saleh added, these arrests and calls come in addition to the arrogance and abuse of power with which it addresses our political activities in Tulkarm and Jenin, as they prevent us from holding seminars and lectures in the halls. The halls shut down at times, and at other times the owners are threatened.

Saleh called on people and human rights organizations to put an end to this power and arrogance. Silence will not only bring more arrogance, so you must raise your voices with us in the face of the Palestinian Authority to realize that its hands are not free to do act without accountability.
