The Khilafah is a common leadership for all the Muslims in the world. The Muslim lands, where the future Khilafah will be re-established over, covers a huge area from Spain in the west all the way to Indonesia in the East.
The Khilafah is a unitary state not a federal state. Governing any state, especially one as large as the future Khilafah, cannot be done by one person from a central point. Ruling in the Khilafah is centralised in the hands of the Khaleefah, who then devolves his powers to various assistants (Mu'awinoon) and governors (Wulah) in order to practically manage people's affairs.

The collapse of the Soviet Union was heralded as a landmark event in history as it proved the superiority of Capitalism over Communism and the emergence of a new world order. Although Communism won many to its ideology over a period of 70 years, it crumbled in the face of the arms race with the US and lost credibility amongst its adherents. Western intellectuals such as Francis Fukuyama labelled the collapse of communism as the end of the development of ideas, as Capitalism had triumphed against its only challenger.

As the anniversary of the destruction of the Khilafah (Caliphate) approaches, Muslims must never forget this dark day in history that led to the removal of Islam and sharia from authority and ruling.
Monday 3rd March 1924 was the official date of the Khilafah's abolishment according to the western Gregorian calendar.
The Khilafah and events surrounding it were international news at the time. Some of these news articles from 1924-1931 are reproduced below courtesy of the TIME Magazine news archive.

This photograph shows the inside of Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina where the Muslims gathered for every one of the Khulufaa' Rashida to give them Bay'ah (pledge of allegiance). Every Khaleefah from the first - Abu Bakr Siddiq (ra) to the last - Abdul-Mejid II was appointed to office through the Bay'ah, although in latter times the process was misapplied.
This article will refute the claim that Islam provides no detailed guidance on a governing system by illustrating the process for appointing the head of an Islamic State - Khaleefah. It will show that the Messenger of Allah (saw) far from neglecting this important aspect of the governing system, in fact detailed a precise methodology for appointing a successor (Khaleefah) for the Muslim Ummah.

This map shows the Islamic Khilafah during the first century of its rule. Despite the number of countries under its domain with their existing languages, traditions, religions, customs, laws and cultures, Islam was successful in moulding these disparate people in to one unified society within a very short period of time.
Unlike the oppressive Byzantine Empire of the time, the Khilafah did not achieve this through tyranny and ruling with an iron fist. The peoples the Khilafah governed embraced Islam en masse and wholeheartedly supported and welcomed the rule of the Islamic State.
This book will refute in detail the claim made by Bush, Blair and others that the Khilafah ruling system is an oppressive, fascist, totalitarian state or par with Nazi Germany.

Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Junada b. abi Umayyah who said: We went to ‘Ubadah b. as-Samit when he was sick and we said: May Allah (swt) guide you. Inform us of a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah (saw) so Allah may benefit you from it. He said, the Messenger of Allah (saw) called upon us and we gave him the Bai’ah, and he said, of that which he had taken from us, that we should give him the pledge to listen and obey, in what we like and dislike, in our hardship and ease, and that we should not dispute the authority of its people unless we saw open Kufr (kufr buwah) upon which we had a proof (burhan) from Allah.

There are some who argue that having more than one Khalifah at one time and the multiplicity of Muslim states like we have today is an area of legitimate difference of opinion. They say that the ahadith about this issue are not definitive, not clear in meaning and that there is no Ijma (consensus) upon this issue. They also misconstrue the statements of classical scholars to justify this. Despite the fact that the states today don’t even rule by Islam we should look at this issue from the Islamic evidences.

The Khilafah is a common leadership for all the Muslims in the world. Its role is to establish the laws of the Islamic Shari'ah and to carry the Da'wah of Islam to the world. The Khilafah is also known as the Imamah, both terms have the same meaning. Several Sahih Ahadith mention them with the same meaning, neither of the two terms has ever differed in meaning in any Shari'ah text i.e. the Qur'an or the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw), these being the only Shari'ah texts. It is not compulsory to hold to the term of Khilafah or Imamah, but rather it is compulsory to hold to the meaning of the term.
