There are momentous times in the history of all peoples. Momentous days, weeks and months. The Muslims are no exception. To the contrary, Islamic history overflows with events and occurrences worthy of the mention, and indeed worthy of remembrance. Such comes with no surprise given the fact that the Islamic civilisation brought a new dawn to the world of the 7th century, as it established itself in the Middle East before moving forth to conquer land after land, bringing with it knowledge, civilisation and real progress.

Politically Aware Muslim
A recent report in Quebec highlighted the role of the media in fuelling the present tensions in the debate on accommodating minorities. The use of the media to manufacture anti-Islamic propaganda is an age-old tactic used by the ruling elite to retain their power and control over the people and prevent them from hearing the message of Islam. In our response, we must continue to engage in debate and discussions – to defend Islam and engage with our communities about the true nature of Allah (swt)’s Deen.
Last week the Montreal Gazette published the Bouchard-Taylor report on the question of “reasonable accommodation” of minorities in Quebec. This report highlighted the role of the media in fuelling the present tensions that surround the debate over accommodation. The commissioners stated that in hindsight the accommodation crisis was largely a media phenomenon, “’The media didn't create the crisis over accommodations, but their message fell on fertile ground.’ Elsewhere, they call on the media to show more "self-discipline" and rigour in reporting on ethnic communities and their representatives, some of whom - like deported Tunisian imam Said Jaziri - got wide coverage despite having little or no credibility.”

A life of normality. wife, children, livelihood, clan and kinsmen. But those days of doing what all ordinary men do were interrupted when Jibreel brought to the Messenger a Mission. It was to trouble his soul and yet kept it alive, vibrant and passionate for fulfillment until the day of joining the Sublime Companion. That Mission was to reach out to mankind - to testify to faith in the Majesty of Allah and to man's need to bow his life and affairs before Him (jalla wa‘ala) with loving submission.

The 60th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine is a grim reminder of the Ummah’s current state of affairs. Although the Ummah is experiencing trials, we must not give into despair and lose hope. We must not capitulate to the demands of the occupiers, but rather continue to remain steadfast. We must exert our utmost effort to resume the Islamic way of life through the re-establishment of Khilafah and rely on Allah (swt) to grant victory to this Ummah.

Though the evidences for Khilafah are many, we start with a daleel that perhaps better than any other describes our reality today, a time when no Khaleefah exists. The hadith was reported by Imam Muslim on the authority of Nafi' that the Messenger (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
''The one who removes his hand from obedience he will meet Allah without a proof for himself' and Whosoever dies without a bay'ah on his neck dies the death of Jahiliyyah.''

After the demise of the Holy Prophet (P.B.H.), the Companions decided
to choose someone capable of organizing and looking after the affairs
of the Ummah, establishing the commandments of the Sharī’ah and
continuing the work of da’wah which was promulgated by the Messenger of
Allah (P.B.H.). Addressing the audience soon after the death of the
Holy Prophet (P.B.H.), Abū Bakr had stressed the second aspect of the
Khilāfah: the establishment of Dīn and the advancement of the laws of
Sharī’ah, He said:
“O people! Muhammad has passed away. However, it is certainly necessary
that someone should come forward to keep Dīn established in society.”[1]

Modern research on the genetic structure of human populations suggests that nearly 15 000 years ago the world population was 15 million (the present population of Delhi, India). The population by the time of Isa (AS) over 2000 years ago had increased to 250 million (about the same as present day Indonesia). On the eve of the industrial revolution in the 18th century world population had tripled to about 700 million (double the size of current day America). In the two centuries that followed the global population increased at an annual rate of 6% reaching 2.5 billion by 1950. In the five decades that followed global population has more then doubled at a rate of 18% to reach more then 6 billion on the eve of the 21st century. Although growth rates are slowing, barring some demographic catastrophe the world population should reach 9 billion by 2050. The current population of the world stands at 6.7 billion.

The Inimitable Qur'an
إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ
Inna aAtayna kal kawthar
Fasalli li rabbika wanhar
Inna shani-aka huwal abtar
Verily We have given to you the abundance
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice
Indeed your enemy is the one who is cut off

The call by the British Foreign Secretary to forcibly spread democracy around the world using both 'soft' and 'hard' Western power echoes the contemporary debate that has been spearheaded by the West that the Muslim world is in urgent need of both political and social reform. In conjunction with its 'War on Terror', the West has lead the call for democracy to be forcibly introduced into the Muslim world. The West together with their small number of secular inspired followers in the Muslim world argue that only democracy can solve the problems that exist in the Muslim world today; the Muslim world can only be saved from itself if it emulates Western political thought and it's values.
