Unfortunately, we as Muslims live during a time when there is no Islamic State to stop the Munkar we see on a daily basis. It is an obligation on Muslims that we try to stop the different Munkars we see. It is one of the biggest challenges a Muslim has to endure to stop a Munkar when there is no support from the Islamic State.
We have been brought back to a time when the kuffar in Mecca used to order the Muslims to stop carrying the da'wah and not to worshipping publicly. As the ayah stated;
"Let their arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), commanding al'Ma'ruf (good) and forbidding al'Munkar (evil)" [Al-Imran, 3:104]
One type of Munkar that we see is the new trend of hijab. Hijab is not a fashion statement and never was meant to be. It is an act of obedience that has been clearly defined in the Qur'an and Sunnah. There is no debate on what is allowed and what is prohibited. Allah سبحانه وتعالى has clearly defined the meaning and as time goes on it should not meet the new trends of society. Unfortunately, we now see the hair bangs showing from the veil, the earlobes showing their earrings, tight fitting clothes, sandals displaying their feet. The neck is shown because the veil is tied at the side or from the back, the huge barrettes to make a hump like style under the veil. These are all types of tabarruj (revealing the beauty), which Islam has prohibited. We see women in public wearing tight fitting clothes even though the awrah is covered, that is under the category of Tabarruj.
A hadith of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم stated that, "Two categories of people; have not seen them (yet): some people who hold whips like the tails of the cow by which they lash people. And women who wear (clothes) but (are) half -naked, bending (their bodies) and bending the sight of men to them. Their heads are like the tilted humps of the camels. These women will not enter the paradise nor will they experience its smell (odor), though its odor is felt at a distance of so and so."
It is disturbing to find hijab fashion magazines and websites to teach fashionable hijab styles. It gives Muslim women the Western style format of how to match the veil with the shirt, pants, and purse. One magazine steered clear of the idea of the jilbab and only introduced Western clothing to go out with. This is intentionally done to steer the Muslim sisters away from what Allah سبحانه وتعالى revealed. This has weaved doubt among Muslims with their religion. Hijab should not merit discussions on what is allowed or prohibited. Allah has defined his laws about hijab.
"Oh Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (Jalabeeb) all over their bodies." [Al-Ahzab, 33:59]
Did the Muslims forget when Umm Atiyya (ra) asked the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, "Oh Messenger of Allah, what about one who does not have a jilbab?" The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, "Let her use the Jilbab of her sister." This clearly states that if her excuse is that she does not own a jilbab, she is to borrow one from her neighbor.
The West is trying to redefine the meaning of hijab in order for Muslim women to break ties with Islam. Discussions about hijab were generated by the colonialists to corrupt the Islamic Aqeedah. The West realized that Muslim women all over the world implemented the standards of hijab. The West gradually started to place ideas of fashionable hijab. The West makes the women feel that the idea of hijab is an oppressive and constraining form of dress. They are using so-called scholars to give another meaning to the jilbab and distort what certain ayat mean. The West purposely is encouraging scholars to change the meanings of hijab to steer Muslims away from Islam. It is clearly stated in several ayat what happens when proofs from Allah سبحانه وتعالى have been revealed. One being,
"And be not as those who divided and differed among themselves after the clear proofs had come to them. It is they for whom there is an awful torment." [Al-Imran, 3:105]
The West mocks the Muslim woman for wearing hijab and tries to disgrace her. The West has succeeded in passing laws banning the hijab. Tunis and Turkey restricts the wearing of the headscarves in government buildings and public schools, and discourages women from wearing the hijab on public grounds. France has banned the wearing of any religious symbols, including the hijab in public schools and government buildings. On June 22, 2009; the President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, said that "burqas are not welcome in France," commenting that, "In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity." Belgium passed a law that banned face-covering clothing in public as seen when a Moroccan immigrant was fined due to wearing of the burqa. Some states in Germany have also banned the hijab in public schools. This clearly shows that the West is threatened by the hijab and Muslims in general.
Why are some Muslims then trying to fit in with a regime that is trying to destroy Islam in all aspects? We need to stand together as one Ummah fighting this Munkar we see on a daily basis. We as Muslims should not try to fit into a regime that is man-made but a regime that was sent down by Allah سبحانه وتعالى. We need to forbid this Munkar we are seeing and be strong in fighting for the cause of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. We should not fear any laws that were man-made but only Allah سبحانه وتعالى. It is crucial that we as Muslims join together and call for the Islamic ideology to lift this oppression on all Muslims and decrease the Munkars we see. This cause needs perseverance, steadfastness, and patience. As many ayat show the importance of patience as such,
"Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty, ailments and were so shaken and that even the Messenger and those who believed with him said, ‘when will come the Help of Allah?' Yes certainly, the help of Allah is near!" [Al-Baqarah, 2:214]

brother Tariq I agree to ur opinion partially that by taking not hijab a woman doesn't become kafir... but still she will be disobeying Allah and to stop her from this act, her guardians must forbid her in the light of Hadith that defines 3 levels of forbidding munkir. and also u used the ayat "There is no compulsion in religion." in wrong context... |

When Allah mentioned in Q3:110 that the believers are the best of people ever created for mankind for they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong; Allah is simply declaring a divine declaration. He has placed the duties and responsibilities of Muslims inscribed in His Kitaab. Can a woman dress immodest with eyes fidgeting all over her arousing different vices within the heart while she claims piety? And a man with modest Islamic attire and appearance cannot commit an act contrary to Islam claiming piety. The heart of man is a concealed nature with the covert motives crystal only to Allah. Therefore, no human can claim absolute piety to him/herself. The contemporary age we find ourselves should not be ruse to discard His risaala if it conforms to our intellect or not. His injunction leads to curbing the menace in our society since man made law can never create a just balance. In another verse: He (swt) says: "Whatever the Prophet (saw) gives you, accept it and whatever he forbids you; stay away from it. And "You have not yet believed until you make him (Prophet Muhammad, saw) your judge. The world is in chaos with total lack of morality leading inevitably to series of vices. Since we are charged to obey, there is no will of ours but to comply, and one the issues to obey is that of hijab. Don't want to go into details because this has been greatly dealt with by various mufaasir and scholars. Need I remember us of this trembling word- It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error. Q33:36. Therefore, the hijab is a religious obligation Allah (swt) has enjoined to the believing women for their own protection and success. It is a manifestation of woman's compliance to the Qur'an and Sunnah. It signifies her subservient to Allah and His Messenger (saw). It is a sign of her strength that would safeguard her dignity and honour against wickedness of some men; and accordingly, a protection of the society where she belongs. Above all, it shows her preference for the hereafter where she will be among those who will be given the honour to see Allah's face. May Allah guide us aright and make us one the reputable representatives of Islam. Amin |

Tariq, If a woman does not wear hijab or she drinks alcohol, these are both sinful actions. In both cases she would be disobedient to Allah(SWT). We have an obligation to advise her, in an islamic state we have an obligastion to enforce as we enjoy the good and forbid the evil means not allowing her to show her hair as we should not be allowing her to show any other parts of her body. These are the limits. When Allah (swt) says "there is no compulsion in religion", if you read a tafsir of the verse, it relates to non-muslims, we cannot force non-muslims to Islam. The prophet (saaws) also said "kill the murtad". We should always refer to the meaning of the revelation of a verse. |

I appreciate the comments in response to my post. This has been very respectful and involves a lot of critical thinking. I have never posted before because so often in comments posts like this people become disrespectful and forget to think critically about the topic. I wish to clarify my statements. I do think a believing woman should, as the Qur'an says, "draw their outer garments closer." however the Qur'an also states, "There is no compulsion in religion." (2:256). Obviously a believing man will grow out his beard, not for outward appearance, but to please Allah. A believing woman will want to cover. This article however points out that woman who show their feet or earlobes are not following Allah's commands. I simply wished to state that we should not force woman or men to dress a certain way if they do not wish to, that we do not know their imaan. We do not the struggles they face regarding their imaan and because of that we should force anyone to dress a certain way. For instance I would rather have a woman strive to increase her imaan and cover on her own terms rather than force her to cover, placing one verses value over another. Peace to all |

Tariq, the basic rule pertaining to volunteer actions is adhering to the Hukm Sharii’ (the Islamic Rule). Thus, when it comes to volunteer matters which are within one’s capacity to control, a Muslim/Muslimah restricts him/herself by way of submitting to Wahi’, which is Divine Revelation, the two primary sources of Qur’aan and Sunnah. Accordingly, when it comes to the dress code of Jilbaab, the evidence is clear and explicit in the Qur’aan. Allaah (SWT) says that which closely translated and means: Oh Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (Jalabeeb) all over their bodies." [Al-Ahzab, 33:59]. Additionally, when the Prophet (SAAW) saw Asma’a’ bint (daughter of) Abu-Bakr and she were at age of puberty without the proper attire, he said to her that which is closely translated and means: “O Asma’a’! When a woman attains to puberty, nothing should be seen from her except this and that (pointing the face and hands). So, these are indications from the Qur’aan and Sunnah, which define the dress code of women. As for Burqah, some Scholars soundly concluded via Ejtihaad through reviewing the legitimate legislative sources of Islaam that it is a mandatory requirement. Others, through surveying the same legitimate legislative sources of Islaam concluded quite the contrary, which is also correct. Both verdicts being correct are due to following the correct methodology of Ejtihaad, in spite of the two different conclusions. However, Only Allaah (SWT) knows which verdict has hit the mark. In relation to this, the Prophet (SAAW) said that which is closely translated and means: “If a Judge performs Ejtihaad and managed to hit the mark, then for him will be a double portion of reward [from Allaah in the next life], and if he errs, then for him is one reward.” We as Muqqallideen (imitators), may chose to follow what prevails our thinking to be closer to the mark through ascertaining the course of a given verdict, and this a praiseworthy quality every Muslim should endure especially in practical mandatory requirements, or when may chose to imitate blindly by following according to the understanding of the Mujtahid, without looking into the details of his conclusions. Although blind imitation is acceptable, it is a dangerous path to trod, especially if it is a serious practical matter. Whatever, we may choose to do, an imitation becomes an adaptation. An adopted Islamic Rule pertaining to any giving action becomes the right of Allaah (SWT) upon those who chose to adopt it. Thus, it becomes a mandatory requirement that one adheres to the practice of the Hukum (Rule) which he/she has chosen to adopt in every practical aspect. With that being said, when it comes to order and organization, which include our dress code in Islaam, the matter is not left to how we may feel about it, but rather to what Allaah (SWT) said and His Messenger instructed, for indeed sincere devotion is being aware of our duty to Allaah (SWT)! |

If a Muslim women is wearing hijab it means she is obeying her creator Allah (swt) and not disobeying Him. This is not a question of investigating someone's imaan or what they do in their private lives, but falls under the obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil as the first ayah quoted in the article states. |

| I usually like and appreciate the articles posed on Khilafah.com, but I must disagree about this. My question is how does an outward show of spirituality show true devotion? I believe that in the last 20 years, too much has been placed on an outward show of devotion. If a woman wears a burka or a hijab does that make her more religious? Even if she drinks alcohol or truly doesn't believe? No. If a man wears pants that goes above his ankles does that make him a better Muslim even if he goes home drunk and misses salat? Since when was Allah's command to question others imaan? | |

The stance of the wicked campaign against Islaam to customize it to fit into the whims and caprices of those who have indulged in the cesspool of desire is nothing new. It reminds me of the queer resolution of Loot’s people, which in a sense reflects what the colonists today are doing to suppress the emerging trends of Islaam, including Hijaab and Burqah. The wicked queers to whom Loot was sent to rectify responded to Loot’s call with that which is closely translated and means: "Drive them out of your hometown, indeed these are people who persist in being pure!''[7:82] |
