Book: Accountability in the Khilafah

E-mail Print PDF
dar_al_adilAccountability (muhasabah) is not the first word that springs to mind when discussing the Muslim world. Dictatorship, rigged elections, tyranny and torture pretty much sum up most Muslim countries today. The level of cruelty inflicted upon the people easily rivals if not surpasses some of the worst oppression in history. Unfortunately for those living there accountability and the rule of law seem a distant dream.

This book, written by Abdul Kareem Newell, addresses the topic of accountability in the Khilafah State and how Islam establishes clear checks and balances to ensure the office of the Khalifah is not abused.

The government/public sector in the current Arab / Muslim Countries ruled by Western Regimes, is in chaos. Corruption, delays, frustrations, panic, organisational dysfunctions are all being witnessed on a daily basis and citizens are sick and tired of dealing with those government agencies and have no other resort.
Analysed closely from a RACI view (R = Responsible, A=Accountable, C=To be Consulted, I=To be Informed) and in which no more than 1 person should be Accountable for a task, all we find is that:
Everyone is Responsible (work overlap, etc.)
No one is Accountable (no one is to blame)
No one is Consulted and no one is Informed
And one guy has all the authority! Causing major delays in important decisions being made, needs being effectively responded to etc.
And all this translated into major waste of money and resources which the public is paying for and Western Consutlants are benefiting from.
