PESHAWAR: The CIA-operated spy planes on Wednesday again intruded into the border areas and continued flying over North and South Waziristan agencies.

Official and tribal sources said two US spy planes, one of them black and the other white, intruded into North Waziristan Agency from neighbouring Afghanistan and were seen flying over certain tribal villages, including Ghulam Khan, Saidgai, Dattakhel, Danday Darpakhel, Miramshah, Razmak and Mirali.

The sources said in the morning tribal militants fired from their heavy weapons at the two pilotless planes. Similarly, tribal sources in the adjoining South Waziristan Agency said two spy planes were seen flying over the Mehsud areas of Makeen, Ladha and Nawaz Kot.

The residents in Miramshah said they hoped the US spy planes would no more fly over their villages after a recent statement by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani that Pakistan was not the US slave and would, therefore, not allow airstrikes into the tribal areas.

Meanwhile, there was an unusual calm in the troubled Bajaur Agency where the security forces have been engaged in fierce fighting against militants and their alleged foreign guests for quite some time.

The tribal sources said warplanes and gunship helicopters that had been pounding militant locations everyday could not fly on Wednesday reportedly owing to bad weather, while the restive region received light rain in the morning.

The Jirgas of different tribes are holding meetings to raise tribal Lashkars against the militants. Also, there were reports that Maulvi Munir, chief of Amr Bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munkar (Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice), had died but sources close to the militants denied it. The reports said Maulvi Munir was recently injured in the bombing by warplanes and died of his wounds on Tuesday night.
