Pakistan's Senate has unanimously adopted a resolution against former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, demanding his arrest upon arrival in the country.

The resolution, moved in the Senate by ruling Pakistan Peoples Party's Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, calls for the apprehension of Musharraf and demands the government to institute a case of high treason against him under Article 6 of the Constitution.

Senator Rabbani said that Musharraf twice abrogated the constitution, arrested the judges of superior judiciary and compromised the national interests, adding that the former president also dented the national economy and inflicted huge loss to the national treasury.

Two Pakistani courts have issued arrest warrants for Musharraf in connection with the 2006 death of Akbar Bugti, a prominent politician in Balochistan province, and the 2007 assassination of ex-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on her homecoming.

Musharraf has been living in a self-imposed exile in London and Dubai since he resigned in 2008, after his political allies lost the general elections that year and the new coalition government led by Pakistan Peoples Party's threatened to impeach him.

He was scheduled to return to Pakistan between January 27 and 30, but recently postponed his plans after several Pakistani officials said he would be arrested upon arrival in the country.
