Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies Report

Israeli soldiers prevented, Saturday, residents of khirbit Al-Mafqara, a small village near the southern West bank city of Hebron, from rebuilding a mosque that was demolished by the army in late December last year.

Rateb Al-Jabour, coordinator of the Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements, in Yatta town south of Hebron, stated that the at least twenty armored military vehicles and jeeps invaded, on Saturday at noon, the Khirbit Al-Mafqara, east of Yatta town, south of Hebron, and surrounded dozens of residents and international peace activists participating in the reconstruction of the mosque.

The mosque was demolished after the army claimed that it was built without a construction permit. The village does not need a permit from Israel as the construction was approved by the local council.

In related news, soldiers attacked on Saturday the weekly nonviolent protest against the Wall and settlements in the nearby town of Beit Ummar, and kidnapped a local resident and an international peace activist.
