SURABAYA- The coming plan of the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama to Indonesia, in Jakarta and Bali, on (20-22/3), received opposition from 1000 ulamas and leaders of pesantrens (Islamic a Boarding Schools) in East Java, which was initiated by Hizb-ut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). Gathered at the Hajj Dormitory in Sukolilo, Surabaya, Sunday (7 / 3), they agreed to reject the coming of Barack Obama to set foot in Indonesia.
According to the Event Coordinator and the Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of HTI (DPD HTI) of East Java, Khoiri Sulaiman, the rejection of a thousand of ulamas to Obama is because the figure is considered to represent a group of very cruel tyranny which is against humanity. "The rejection is essentially because he didn't keep his promise not to persecute our brothers, the Muslims in some regions in the world, "he said.
Khoiri continued, in the event the ulama also signed a contract agreement, whose goal later on is to mobilize thousands of cadres of HTI in East Java to stage a demonstration in front of the Consulate General of United States on Sunday, March 14, 2010, against the visit of Obama in Indonesia. According to him, the stance of HTI and a thousand of ulama in East Java is a form of pressure on the Indonesian government to hear the undercurrent.
He hoped that the government could make it a consideration to cancel the permit of the U.S. President, who had once lived in Menteng area in Jakarta, to come to Indonesia. "By all means, we will voice our aspirations for the cancellation of the coming of Obama to our country. Moreover, we plan to hold a big demonstration in front of the U.S. Consulate General so they reconsider their plan to set foot to Indonesia, "Khoiri quoted as saying.
