€750 fine for anyone wearing veil in France
A French MP says he will soon put forward legislation that would make wearing face-covering Muslim veils in public an offence subject to a €750 fine. Jean-Francois Cope, who heads the governing UMP party in the National Assembly, said in an interview with Le Figaro that the ban on wearing burkas and other face-shrouding veils would extend to all public spaces, including the street. He said certain cultural events and carnivals would be exempt from the legislation. Those who oblige women to wear the head-to-toe veils also would be subject to fines. The opposition Socialist party is against the proposal.

Islam is filling Europe's faith void, says Bishop
Europe faces Islamisation because it has denied its Christian roots, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Prague has warned. Cardinal Miloslav Vlk said Europe will "pay dear" for having left its spiritual foundations, and said that it was now in the last period when a chance remained to do something about it. Cardinal Vlk made his remarks in an interview to mark his retirement after 19 years leading the Czech Roman Catholic Church. "Unless the Christians wake up," the Cardinal said, "life may be Islamised and Christianity will not have the strength to imprint its character on the life of people, not to say society." He also said that one motive of Muslims immigrating to Europe was to bring their religion to "the pagan environment of Europe, to its atheistic style of life". But he said that Europeans had brought the crisis on themselves by exchanging European Christian culture for an aggressive atheistic secularism. Europe is home to 38 million Muslims, around 5 per cent of its population.

Al-Azhar issues fatwa to support the construction of a wall with Gaza
A council of leading Muslim clerics has supported the Egyptian government's construction of an underground barrier along the border with Gaza to impede tunnelling by smugglers. The Islamic Research Council of Al-Azhar University, Sunni Islam's highest seat of learning, said that the tunnels were used to smuggle drugs and threatened Egypt's security, the Al-Masri Al-Yawm newspaper reported. "Those who oppose building this wall are violating the commands of Islamic law," they added, after a meeting attended by Egypt's top cleric Sheikh Mohammed Said Tantawi, who is a government appointee. Israel has sealed off Gaza and caused a humanitarian disaster. Now Al-Azhar is following the sunnah of the Jews and supporting the Egyptian regime to persecute Muslims of Gaza in the name of Islam.

Iran- Turkmenistan Gas pipeline to weaken Russia's grip
A new gas pipeline that will allow for a sharp increase in natural gas deliveries from Turkmenistan to Iran was opened on Wednesday. The 19-mile pipeline, which weakens Moscow's grip over the region's gas supplies, is the second new route tapping into the region's vast gas resources to begin operating in the space of a month. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the route could have a global impact. "This pipeline will be a good stimulus for energy co-operation between Turkmenistan and Iran, as well as for delivery of Turkmen gas to the Persian Gulf and the world market," Mr Ahmadinejad said. Iran currently imports around 8 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Turkmenistan through the existing 125-mile Korpeje-Kordkuy pipeline under the terms of a 25-year deal reached in 1997.

I am not agree with my brother ali because ,as he said that every country or every governoment has its own law and every resident of this country should fallow this law, now there is a question, despite ,that the taliban had there own law but the world was against the taliban regiam , why ?if every regiam is allowed to do everything that it wants ,why the taliban were not allowed to do everything that it wanted? but no, there we have human rights ,freedom of press or speech ,freedom of faith and etc. when u hav power it doesnt mean that u should do everything that u want . as u we know better in Islam we have freedom of faith ,every muslim should respect every religion .so it is not good action that the governoment of france is doing.

...that today they'll take away the veil b/c we won't argue against them, tomorrow, they'll take away the head scarf, and etc... I think Muslims should boycott all countries with such laws like they did to the Dutch.

Assalamualaikum,

Insha-Allah I would like to respond to Ali's comment.

I think that the issue in France is a big deal for a few reasons.

1) On an individual level, the sisters who adopt the niqab as being fard - while it being an opinion among other opinions, is nonetheless a valid Islamic opinion. As a result this proposed law puts the sisters living in France who adopt the Niqab as fard in a difficult situation. For them, they cannot remove the niqab because they see it as a command from Allah (swt) like any other command. While it can be an option to move to another country, the question is where will they move? Especially if they have been in France their whole life.

So on an individual level I see the ban of the Niqab as a problematic situation for our sisters and because Allah (swt) revealed to the nearest of meaning: "The Believers are nothing else but brothers" [TMQ 49:10] than their uncomfortability should be our uncomfortability as well.

2) On a societal level the banning of the niqab is yet another proof that the Capitalist ideology does not work. The very fact that Capitalism boasts "freedom to do whatever you want" and then curtails "freedom" for women to put more cloths on (ie the niqab) is another evidence that we can use in our discourse and discussions on the failures of man-made systems and the success of implementing the Shariah by re-establishing the Khilafah Rashidah in the Muslim lands according to the method of RasulAllah (saw).

I am not sure about the intention of muslim Scholars in Al-Azhar because only ALLAH knows whats in their heart.. but as far as the issue of wearing a veil in France is concerned, i dont know why people make a big issue out of it... France first of all is not a muslim country and it has its own legislative body in which the majority of the policy making is done by non-muslims..when a person goes to France either by getting a visa or by getting a passport, he is bound to follow the law of that country... if there is something in the law which contradicts someones religious duties, they should not go to that country in the first place... now coming back to the issue of wearing a veil.. first of all covering of the face is NOT COMPULSORY according to the majority of scholars...rather it is preferable..if a woman has a problem because she is not allowed to wear the veil, then she can either opt for political struggle to force the legislators to amend the law.. otherwise, she can either cover her head and not the face... even if she is not ready to do that, then if Islam is her first priority then she should leave the country... because more importantly her duty is to abide to the agreement between her and the government of France either via a valid visa or by getting the nationality..A good example of this can be seen in the Pact of Hudaibia when the Prophet Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him did not except to take the chained Sahabi R.Z with him because he already signed a pact with the Kuffar...Making an issue out of these things seems absurd to me and brings a bad name to the religion as well...And ALLAH without a doubt knows best
