“Do not acquire knowledge in order to vie with scholars, and to wrangle with the foolish, and to sit in the best seats: whoever does that his abode will be the Fire, the Fire.”

It has been narrated that Jabir رضي الله عنه said that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Do not acquire knowledge in order to vie with scholars, and to wrangle with the foolish, and to sit in the best seats: whoever does that his abode will be the Fire, the Fire.”

Reported by Ibn Hibbaan in his Sahih. Al-Haakim has graded as sahih and az-Zahabi agreed. It has also been reported by Ibn Maajah, al-Bayhaqi, Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr in his his book Jami bayan al¬‘ilm wa fadlihi.
