Kosovo’s independence: Cat and Mouse game between Russia and the West

Once again the Muslims of the Balkans are pawns in a vicious power struggle between Russia and the West over the future of Kosovo. Russia and her proxy state Serbia have been infuriated by American attempts to encourage the Kosovan government to formally announce its independence from Serbia . Speaking on the subject President Fatmir Sejdiu said, "I must emphasis it is going to be very soon".‌

After the disintegration of Yugoslavia , the US in collaboration with the EU began to curb Russias influence in the Balkans. In retaliation, Serbia waged war against the former provinces of Yugoslavia . The conflict contributed to genocide of the Muslims of Bosnia, and later precipitated the slaughter of Muslims in Kosovo, until NATO intervened, and Kosovo the hinterland of Serbia was put under UN administration in 1999. Now the Muslims of the Kosovo face further prospects of butchery, as Serbia has warned of strong measures, should the government in Kosovo declare independence. What the Muslims of Kosovo need to realise is that neither Europe nor America will guarantee their security. Their security rests with the Islamic state. After all, was not the Khilafah that protected them from the Europeans and Russians for more than 450 years.
