Prior to Asif Ali Zardari’s current visit to America, US President Barack Obama said “We want to respect their sovereignty, but we also recognize that we have huge strategic interests, huge national security interests in making sure that Pakistan is stable and that you don’t end up having a nuclear-armed militant state.” This was immediately preceded by General Petraeus’s remarks when he said that Pakistan had just two weeks left to destroy the Taliban or faced collapse, saying “The Pakistanis have run out of excuses…we have heard it all before.” This has now been followed by a new military operation by the Pakistan Army in the lower Dir and Buner districts adjoining Swat in northern Pakistan.

Zardari has deliberately ordered these new round of military attacks in Buner to coincide with his US visit. The Zardari regime’s deliberate actions are creating civil war in Pakistan; Zardari is offering the blood of his people to appease Barack Obama. In his visit Zardari has not once even raised the issue of the American drone attacks which have terrorised Pakistan’s people in the tribal regions. Zardari cut a pathetic figure as he stood alongside US officials in Washington resembling a schoolboy being admonished by his masters.

Indeed it is clear from the pattern and nature of statements emanating from the highest levels of the US government that this latest burst of US propaganda launched by the Americans has been designed to provide political cover for Zardari’s regime at home so that such a military operation could take place. The so called ‘Shariah in Swat’ deal was nothing more than a ploy in the last few weeks to pave the way for this action. A country with a modern 700,000 man army with 500,000 reserves is not going to collapse at the hands of a few hundred fighters. The American government’s claims of the Pakistani state imminently collapsing are so outlandish and hysterical that it takes them into the realms of fantasy.

The real objective of the Americans here was to ensure that the Zardari regime would undertake such actions because it knew it would face massive opposition and anger from the Pakistani people. This is why America implicitly also signals that it would take matters into it’s own hands, in an attempt to scare the Muslims of Pakistan. Yet nothing could be further from the truth; America is a bankrupt country in financial turmoil which is facing military defeat in Afghanistan at the hands of lightly armed irregular fighters. It cannot even contemplate directly taking on a well armed nuclear power such as Pakistan at this time. This is in fact exactly why America is trying to create a civil war in Pakistan; it wants to balkanise Pakistan as it fears the Pakistan military’s power together with the growing call for Khilafah from it’s people. Obama’s agenda is a continuation of Bush’s ‘War on Terror’ to prevent the Muslim world freeing itself from the shackles of the despotic tyrants and corrupt rulers who rule over her serving the West’s interests.

Zardari whilst slavishly visiting Washington has ordered the killing and murder of his own people. Over 500,000 people have already been made homeless in Buner and lower Dir in an area with a population over 1.5 million people to add to the already 1 million displaced in the surrounding tribal areas. These are vulnerable men, women and children who have been left to fend for themselves in the open as they flee for their lives. Are all of these people terrorists? Those that remain are now effectively under siege from their own army without electricity and water in most areas. The Zardari regime has literally adopted a scorched earth policy where whole villages are being flattened and destroyed. A massacre is in the making at the behest of the Americans for which Asif Ali Zardari and General Ashfaq Kayani are directly responsible. The area is effectively being cleansed of it’s population to create a buffer zone for the Americans across the border in Afghanistan. Perhaps the most damning indictment which one could not have even imagined just a couple of years ago is that this operation equals or is in fact actually worse than the recent Israeli slaughter in Gaza. In Gaza there was an open enemy of the Muslims waging war against a defenceless population. In Swat you have a treacherous regime waging war against it’s own Muslim population.

In all of this the amoral hypocrisy of the American and British governments is apparent once more; they continuously talk about the possibility of terrorist attacks taking place inside Western cities but once again are directly responsible for the actual death, injury and displacement of thousands of people in the tribal regions as they order their puppets Zardari and Kayani to execute this latest military operation. For all the talk of human rights and freedom in places such as Darfur we see these Western governments continue to support some of the worst rulers in the Muslim world as they undertake their murderous actions. The American and British governments accused Saddam Hussein of the murder of his own people to justify the Iraq invasion but in Pakistan Brown and Obama are urging the Zardari regime onwards.

Democracy has turned out to be a catastrophe for the Muslims of Pakistan. Not only has it given rise to the despicable Zardari, his so called political opposition, Nawaz Sharif, is also meeting American officials as he signals his support for the American campaign. Moreover reports in the American media suggest that the Zardari regime is now starting the process of giving away Pakistan’s nuclear protection by allowing the Americans to remove Pakistan’s nuclear materials as well. If this happens Pakistan will be left vulnerable to India to it’s east and of course to the Americans in Afghanistan. The Zardari regime is a direct threat to the integrity and security of Pakistan. Such open treachery by Zardari will ensure that no longer will he just be known as ‘Mr Ten Percent’ but for his bloodletting he will go down in history as being the butcher of Buner as well.
