Surge in Opium Production is the Outcome of the Colonial Invasion of Afghanistan

SIGAR, a body that is responsible to keep an eye on the developmental activities of U.S. in Afghanistan said in its recent report that despite spending 7.6 Billion dollars, Afghanistan is still the number one producer of opium globally.

After the brutal invasion of Afghanistan by U.S. and NATO forces, due to its propaganda machine some people were swayed that, the cultivation of opium, its usage and trade to other countries will decrease significantly. However, the reality is diametrically opposite to these false expectations and the production of opium has increased many folds. Initially the yearly production of opium was 138 tons, but now it has reached to a shocking figure of 5500 tons. Moreover, in 2005 the number of opium addicts was 130,000 people; whereas in 2014 it has reached to 1.3 million people, which indeed is an alarming growth.

One thing that is evident is that both U.S. and Britain are earning huge amounts of money through opium trade and are in fact the real beneficiaries of opium trade in Afghanistan.

Hence, the presence of these colonialists in Afghanistan has a direct link with the increase in the opium production in Afghanistan. Hereafter, as long as these crusaders are here, we cannot get rid of this menace that is effecting our youth severely, as well as from corruption and political instability, that will prevail in the coming years.
