This week the Pakistani media has been abuzz with the news that General Kayani instead of retiring as planned is likely to stay on in a more powerful role of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC). Speaking to Reuters, a senior intelligence official said that Nawaz Sharif planned to overhaul the JCSC, a largely ceremonial office, into a “central defence body” by restoring its command over the entire military establishment and giving it additional powers. “The new JCSC chief will be in charge of the nuclear arsenal. He’ll decide on action against terrorists,” said the source, adding that new powers included the right to promote post and transfer key military officers. “Basically, the JCSC office will be what it was always supposed to be. The overall boss,” he added.

Comment:

The issue here is not whether Kayani gets this job or not. Rather it is about how anyone in their right mind can consider someone like Kayani for the JCSC position. Kayani has long track record of aiding and abetting America’s war against Pakistan and severely compromising Pakistan’s sovereignty. The duty of a trained solider and career officer in the Pakistani army is to defend Pakistan. But Kayani has never defended Pakistan from its arch enemies— America and India. On the contrary his uniform is stained with the blood of innocent Pakistanis and his hands are always dripping with Muslim blood during his reign as Chief of Army Staff (CoAS).

Has Nawaz Sharif forgotten about the fiasco of the Abbottabad raid, the handling of the Raymond Davis affair and the numerous drone strikes that have maimed and killed many innocent civilians? Is Nawaz oblivious to the countless clandestine meetings between American officials and Kayani—where Kayani has lauded praise on his American masters and despised Pakistanis? In 2011, Wikileaks revealed that Kayani was a thirsty blood hound and wanted more drone strikes to spill greater Muslim blood, whilst in public he maintained that he was doing his utmost to protect Pakistan. Allah says in the Quran about such people:

وَإِذَا لَقُوا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قَالُوا آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَى شَيَاطِينِهِمْ قَالُوا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِئُونَ

“And when they meet those who believe, they say, “We believe”; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, “Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers.”

(Al-Baqarah, 2:14)

For all intents and purpose Kayani is Pakistan’s foremost enemy and by giving him the job of the JCSC Pakistan’s humiliation is set continue at the hands of the American crusaders. Kayani will use the powers of the JCSC to promote like-minded military officers i.e. those who are incompetent, and subservient to America. One only has to look at ISI Chief Zaheer ul-Islam and see what is in store for the Pakistani army. The sincere and competent soldiers and officers will be purged just like Brigadier Ali.

Rather than imprisoning Kayani and announcing a court date to try him for treachery, it appears that Nawaz Sharif will persist in his folly and appoint the evil Kayani to the post of JCSC. And this further confirms that Sharif’s sincerity lies not with the people of Pakistan but with America. Thus the Sharif-Kayani partnership will bring nothing but destruction for the people of Pakistan, and enable America to continue with her ruthless crusade against Islam.
