Erdogan Crossed Out the Islamists

Turkish President Erdogan said that the supporters of his party do not show the same attitude now like in the past by saying, “If you are a companion you will come until death, not until Sunday”.

Erdogan also said, “Islamists are excluded in the AK Party.” In relation to this claim he said, “It is wrong to make a distinction between being an Islamist or not. We are not looking for disciples for an Islamic monastery.” (Source: internethaber)

Comment:

The media started a polemic about “Pelikan-Islamist” (Pelikandosyasi.wordpress.com is a blog post about Davutoğlu, published on May 1, 2016 https://pelikandosyasi.wordpress.com/) after the writer of Star Newspaper Cem Küçük made this statement; “AK Party has also women and totally weird types as the radical Islamists have, the maniac types from Mavi Marmara, off the cuff enemy to Israel, off the cuff enemy to the West, off the cuff enemy to all things. It should part company with those too. I guess Mister Tayyip will do that after this hour. I think that it is necessary to stay good with the United Kingdom but to focus on these, and to put things right together with America.”

After a long time and last but not least low debates, Erdogan’s explanation about this subject was wondered. Some of them pointed out that Cem Küçük expressed Erdogan’s thoughts, while others were still considering Erdogan above blame. As a matter of fact, this question was asked to Erdogan. Nagehan Alçı, a journalist who asked the question to Erdogan, wrote in her article; “He was disappointed even furious with some writers who called themselves Islamists.” He gave the message that “those names no longer have places in the community of AK Party”.

President Erdogan in his statement; he sees AK Party and himself on “the exact right path (Sirat el-Mustaqim)” and thinks that the Islamist writers who supported AK Party in the past do not continue to support them. On the other hand, President Erdogan crossed out the Islamists and showed himself that he was next to the “Pelikancılar”. In other words, we have seen that the words spilled from the mouth of Cem Küçük were actually the thoughts of President Erdogan.

With this statement made by Erdogan, the following issues have emerged:

  • The CSO’s and journalists who have considered themselves as Islamists have learned of this debate the side of Erdogan, which is on the side of “Pelikancılar”.
  • It is understood that however the Islamic writers consider themselves as a part of AK Party, President Erdogan does not see it like that way. Erdogan’s statement; “if you are a companion you will come until death, not until Sunday” shows that Islamic writers were crossed out.
  • President Erdogan considers every criticism and approach that does not take him as a measure a deviation from “the exact right path (Sirat el-Mustaqim)”.
  • Erdogan is trying to get ahead of all the criticisms coming from the Islamic sections about the developments to be experienced after the system change in Turkey and especially about all the issues related to the foreign politics.
  • President Erdogan wants a journalism spectrum and civil society who says wrong to whatever Erdogan calls wrong, and who says true to whatever Erdogan calls true. And he calls “the exact right path (Sirat el-Mustaqim)”.

Conclusion:

The CSO representatives and journalists who consider themselves as Islamist should not be silent to these statements of President Erdogan. They must continue to use their pens and keyboards according to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. They must be more courageous to account for the wrongs of the Leaders and tell them that those are wrong. Let us not forget; “Whoever pursues someone, he shall be revived with him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Allah (swt) says:

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَدْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُنصَرُونَ

“And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.”
