Making Sense of Space

Astronomers have recently reported, after modelling images collected over 20 years by the Hubble Space Telescope, that there are over 2 trillion galaxies in the universe, up to 20 times more than previously thought. The research, which was published in the Astronomical Journal, is considered the most comprehensive ever. It also highlighted, that due to […]

Q&A: Qadaa’ Wal Qadar (Divine Fate and Destiny)

Question: Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakaatuhu In the book At Tayseer Fi Usool At Tafseer [page 44 Arabic version]: “Or through definite transmission (Naqli) from Allah سبحانه وتعالى in His Holy Book or from His Messenger ﷺ in his Mutawatir Hadith; like the belief in the Unseen, the Angels, the previously sent down Books, […]

When Enlightenment Dazzles!

News: On the 6th of April, on the occasion of the Christian Easter, the Danish newspaper Politiken published an article written by a religious historian with a specialty in Semitic philosophy, with the title: “If Jesus Never lived – Then Islam Would Most Likely Not Have Existed”. Besides criticizing religions in general, he claims that […]

Converts and the Power of Emaan

In the past few months, I have attended more janaza prayers than in any comparable time in my life. A reminder that life is short and death is certain. They have been janazas of the fathers of my friends, acquaintances and some converts to Islam. The converts included a Chinese sister named Ayeesha and another brother whose janaza prayers were in Mosques near me. As their friends and family spoke about their journey to Islam, the amazing changes in their character after Islam and their commitment and steadfastness in worshipping Allah سبحانه وتعالى, you found yourself amazed at the power of Islam to transform these converts in such a profound way.

The World is a Prison of the Believer and Paradise for the Kafir

Yes indeed, the world is the Prison of the Believer, for when he sees the Heaven with all of its delights, he will conceive that this earth in comparison, with all of its limited riches and fleeting pleasures, was as miserable as a prison. And yes, when the Kafir faces Hell as an everlasting abode, a prison of no escape, with the severest punishment and the extremes of pain, without reprieve, he will consider that his worldly life, despite its hardships, trials and tribulations, was indeed Heaven. Thus, the day upon which we will be made to arise and brought for judgment, the trial upon our good and bad actions, the sentencing and the punishment, these are matters when considered as they should be considered, shakes the soul and moves one to tears.

The Theory of Evolution: Unravelling the Flaws

The Theory of Evolution has become the de facto standard used in the West, and indeed beyond, to explain the existence of creation and life, it is described as rational and scientific. In stark contrast, other arguments that explain the existence of life are considered to be irrational, backward and steeped in ignorance borne out of belief in religion. In other words, there are essentially two clear camps: the ‘scientific’ and progressive camp which espouses the virtues of the Theory, and the apparently ‘unscientific’ contingent which clings to outmoded explanations such as the existence of a Creator.

Guidance and Misguidance

Linguistically Huda means rashaad (integrity of conduct) and dalaalah (showing the way). It is said, he guided him to the deen, i.e. led him to guidance; I showed him the way and the home meaning I informed. Dhalaal is the opposite of rashaad.

Hidaayah, according to the Shar’a, is to be guided to Islam and to believe in it. And dhalaal, according to the Shar’a is deviation from Islam.

Islam and Spirituality

The origin of the use of the word ‘spirit’ is found in the discussions that took place between people who believe in the existence of God, frequently using words such as ‘spirit’ and ‘spirituality’ to articulate the effect of a creator.

One of the most misunderstood areas of Islam amongst the Ummah is this very topic of spirituality with the Muslim Ummah today holding a wide range of varying views on what spirituality is and how it is to be interpreted.

It must however be asked as to whether the issue of spirituality in Islam is something that has always existed. Is the discussion of spirituality part of Islam or a separate universal topic?

Islamic Belief and Rationality

To have faith in a creator is considered by many as equal to following something blindly. The rise of science and technology in the last 50 years has resulted in many people abandoning their religious beliefs and adopting the faith of science which concludes there is no need for a creator.

Names such as Richard Dawkins a staunch atheist regularly ridicules those who believe in a creator and look upon any person who believes in Allah سبحانه وتعالى as effectively contradicting the very make-up of a human being. Scientists as well as those who are smitten by the discoveries in the scientific world have over the years developed a number of theories which for them proves there is no such thing as a creator. These theories or arguments can be categorized as follows:

The Victory of Allah (swt) is Near

The 60th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine is a grim reminder of the Ummah’s current state of affairs. Although the Ummah is experiencing trials, we must not give into despair and lose hope. We must not capitulate to the demands of the occupiers, but rather continue to remain steadfast. We must exert our utmost effort to resume the Islamic way of life through the re-establishment of Khilafah and rely on Allah (swt) to grant victory to this Ummah.

Exposing the flaws in the Theory of Evolution

This article will describe and explore the Theory of Evolution. It will attempt to describe the theory, defining its main elements, and also take a brief look at the historical changes to the Theory – a kind of evolution of the Theory of Evolution! In addition, the article will seek to discuss the evidences used by the proponents of this theory and then provide a synopsis of the counter arguments.
