America’s Rulers Shamefully Exploit Paris Attacks by Scapegoating Syrian Refugees for Political Electoral Gains

At least 17 officials say they will not accept Syrian refugees into their states, citing fears that some refugees could plan terrorist attacks similar to those carried out in Paris last Friday. Authorities investigating the coordinated attacks, which killed at least 129 people, said on Sunday they believe at least one of the suspects entered Europe among a wave of Syrian refugees, entering Greece in early October. Following media claims of a Syrian passport found next to one of the suicide attackers bodies in Paris, numerous countries have cited security concerns and outright Islamophobic discrimination towards Muslims as a justification to reject accepting Syrian Muslim refugees. This is despite further media reports that the Syrian passport found outside the Stade de France was a fake. For example this week in America, twenty-nine out of fifty state representatives have said no to accepting Syrian refugees and they are intent on making the legal acceptance process for refugees difficult. Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey said Syrian refugees would not be allowed into his state, adding not even “3-year-old orphans” would be permitted entry. This is in response to President Obama’s announcement in September to increase next year’s intake of Syrian refugees to 10,000. This is in contrast to the European Union proposing to spread 160,000 refugees across nearly two dozen countries. However since the start of the uprising in Syria in 2011 America has only accepted 1,600 Syrian refugees.

This latest uproar over Syrian refugees in the name of national security by America’s Governors is another shameful political episode that reflects the evil nature of America’s capitalist political system that aims to exploit any political issue for a beneficial political advantage. America is directly responsible for this refugee crisis in Syria due to its military foreign policy in the Middle East. Yet, the inhuman and nonchalant attitude towards the most vulnerable victims of their war in Syria, does not perturb these leaders in the least. America does not care if this refugee crisis significantly impacts upon Muslim women and children the most. Caring for a vulnerable “3-year-old orphan” is not surprisingly beyond America’s political conscience. According to a 2014 UNHCR report, from the 4 million Syrian refugees living in camps outside Syria, women make up roughly a quarter of this population and half are children under seventeen. Therefore, the Muslim women and children from Syria will continue to be abandoned in the death camps of Jordan and Lebanon as a result of America’s war on Islam and Muslims.

The cycle of suffering and misery which the Muslim women and children experience in Syria and in the region will not end except by the rightly guided Khilafah, that will bring security, justice, protection, and care.
