A Muslim has no Right to Leave Islam and Embrace another Religion

And Whoever does… He is Killed in Spite of the Unbelievers

Akhbar Alyoum Newspaper, Issue No. 7103 mentioned on Wednesday 18th June 2014, a statement by the Political Secretary of the Popular Congress Party; Kamal Omar, saying: “It is Abrar’s right to convert to Christianity, and said that the Popular Congress opposes the death sentence issued against Abrar. He added that al-Turabi has an opinion on the issue of apostasy, that there is no support for the penalty of apostasy in the Qur’an and that they are baseless jurisprudence discussions that have no relation to the basic principles of Islam (Usul)”.

It is well known to the scholars that he who apostatized; that renounces the Deen of Islam, amongst men and women, and is a sane adult, is invited to Islam three times and is constrained; either reverts to Islam or is killed. He سبحانه وتعالى says:

“And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever – for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.”

(Al-Baqara: 217)

Also Bukhari narrated from Ikrimah who said: Some Zanadiqah were brought to Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, and he burnt them. This reached Ibn Abbas and he said: I would not have burnt them because of the prohibition by the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم: “Do not punish with the punishment of Allah”. Rather I would have killed them in accordance with the words of RasulAllah صلى الله عليه وسلم “Whoever changes his religion, kill him”.

It is also evidenced that Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, had given a chance to a woman called Umm Qirfah who disbelieved to repent and revert to Islam after her conversion to Islam but she refused to repent and so he killed her.

As for those who believe in freedom of belief based on the Words of the Almighty,

“There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.”

(Al-Baqara: 256)

And the Almighty says,

“And say, “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.”

(Al-Kahf: 29)

These verses are about the unbelievers who do not yet believe in Islam; these are not compelled to enter Islam, but are invited with wisdom, a good admonition and a discourse in the best manner.

After entering Islam, the situation becomes different, and the one who enters Islam knows that if he reverts from Islam he will be killed. Because this is one of the provisions of Islam, and the Had (the proscribed punishment) of apostasy is one of Allah’s Hudud.

As for the saying that there is no mention of apostasy in the Qur’an it is the saying of those who deny the Sunnah, despite that it is within the Usul that Sunnah is a Shari’ evidence just like the Quran without any difference between them, for they are both established by definite evidences (Daleel Qati). To be confined to the Book is the opinion of the dissents from Islam. He سبحانه وتعالى says:

“And whatever the Messenger has given you – take; and what he has forbidden you – refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.”

(Al-Hashr: 7)

And the Almighty says:

“He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah; but those who turn away – We have not sent you over them as a guardian”

(An-Nisa: 80)

Also the Almighty says:

“So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet’s order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.”

(An-Nur: 63)

In addition to other verses that are explicit in the obligation of taking the Sunnah, and the one who denies the Sunnah is definitely a Kaffir.

We are in Hizb ut Tahrir Wilayah Sudan warn people who talk in Islam without knowledge, driven by fear of the Kaffir West, or in order to please them, we warn them of the wrath of Allah Almighty. And we tell them that the rightly guided Khilafah state, the soon returning, Allah willing, will establish Allah’s Hudud, and apply its provisions without fear of anyone, or in pursuit of anyone’s satisfaction. It will cut off the tongues of evil that are offensive to Islam, or derogate from its provisions, and on that day, the believers will rejoice in Allah’s victory.

The Almighty says:

“And [you will obtain] another [favor] that you love – victory from Allah and an imminent conquest; and give good tidings to the believers.”
